Connecting the brake hoses.

The W&LLR uses the Automatic Vacuum Brake for passenger trains. The system enables the driver to control the brakes on the engine and the carriages. If a coupling should break then the hoses would part allowing air into the "train pipe". This would cause the brakes to be applied to both portions of the train and bring each to a safe stop.
