Left Making a new blower for The Countess. The blower is used to draw the fire when the loco is standing still. It is basically a ring of steam jets placed around the blast pipe. The jets create a partial vacuum in the smoke box which draws air through the fire. 21/1/07 Copyright © Geoff Gauntlett 2007 |

The blower will fit around the blast pipe assembly.
The rectangular box shaped structure is part of the spark arrestor. The blast pipe, blower and vacuum ejector exhaust are contained within the box. Air and flue gases drawn from the fire have to pass through a stainless steel mesh befre exiting form the chimney. The mesh prevents burning sparks from escaping onto the line side when they might start fires.
